New Wines for a New Millennium


Whites (New Vintages and Some New Names)

There are plenty of vintage 1998 whites on the shelves now. Here are our top seven from a large, completely blind tasting.

7th - Sauvignon Blanc by Flora Springs, Napa Valley, $10
6th - Sauvignon Blanc by Chateau Julien, Monterey County, $10
5th - Chardonnay by Clos Du Bois, Sonoma County, $14
4th - Chardonnay by William Hill, Napa Valley, $15
3rd - Galilee 2000 (70 S. Blanc, 30 Semillon), Galilee Region, Israel, $8
2nd - Chardonnay by Farallon (Sebastiani), Central Coast, $10
Best - Sauvignon Blanc by Lockwood, Monterey County, $10.50

Reds (New Vintages and Some New Names)

Just as the 1998 whites are here, so are the 1997 reds coming out. Here are our recent best '97s plus a few new releases of other years.
