Beauty in a (Grocery) Bag...

Here are a few more "food for beauty" recipes.

Oily Skin Oatmeal Facial Mask

Oatmeal's texture helps slough off dead skin cells without damaging the skin's underlying structure, leaving it smooth and glowing.

1 egg white
3 teaspoons of oatmeal

Beat the white of 1 egg until it's frothy then add 3 tablespoons oatmeal. Apply oatmeal paste to skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.

Grapefruit Rough Skin Smoother

Grapefruit acts as an astringent since it's acidic. But be careful—don't use the following recipe on newly shaven legs, as it will sting.

1/4 cup of granulated sugar
6 teaspoons of olive oil
1 cup of fresh grapefruit
Loofah scrubber

Mash the grapefruit and mix it with the sugar and oil. Hop into the shower or bathtub and gently massage the mix over rough areas of skin with a loofah sponge or rough washcloth. Rinse with cool water.

Castor Oil Brown Spot Treatment

Rub a few drops of castor oil into the brown pigmentation daily and many brown spots may gradually disappear.

Mayonnaise Silken Hair Conditioner

Wash hair. Rub a liberal amount of real mayonnaise through your hair. Cover head with a hot, damp towel or a shower cap and leave on for 30 minutes. Wash hair twice to remove all oil and residue. Dry as usual.

Water

The most inexpensive and effective beauty product is already in your home and comes from the faucet— water.

  • The human body is 70% water and we lose 10-12 cups of this vital nutrient a day through the skin, lungs, urine, and feces. Food replenishes a small amount— about two to four cups daily— leaving six to eight glasses of water that needs replacement. Without that replacement, your skin dries up and your digestive system won't operate efficiently. This allows waste products to build up in your system, which may cause elimination problems, acne flare-ups and fatigue.

  • Drink a tall glass of water immediately upon arising. Drink another glass about 15 minutes before meals and again two hours after a meal. Have one last glass before going to bed. In a few short weeks, you'll be amazed at how dewy and youthful your skin looks.
