Kate's Newest Book...
A Chicken in Every Pot
Global Recipes for the World's Most Popular Bird

by Kate Heyhoe

Chicken At last! My very own book about my own favorite food: chicken.

This has been a busy year for the Global Gourmet. I wrote three books, all coming out before the end of 2003. Macho Nachos: 50 Toppings, Salsas, and Spreads for Irresistible Snacks and Light Meals (Clarkson Potter) and Harvesting the Dream: The Rags-to-Riches Tale of the Sutter Home Winery (a business strategy book for John Wiley & Sons) will be available in late December 2003.

But the first book to hit the shelves is available now: A Chicken in Every Pot: Global Recipes for the World's Most Popular Bird (Capital Books, October 2003). In it, I present 150 international and original recipes that are easy and thrifty but don't seem so, at least when it comes to flavor. The recipes are adaptable to various cuts of chicken, and they can be made by anyone with average cooking skills—even novices. Along the way, sidebars pepper the chapters with "FlavorPrints"—blueprints for world cuisines—and other tips, trivia and tidbits.

Many cooks today have no idea how to cook a whole chicken, let alone cut one up. So the book covers these topics but also includes recipes for cooking chicken parts (particularly those economical jumbo packs) and adapting recipes to other cuts of the bird. Rest assured, whatever chicken parts go on sale, you'll find a recipe here that makes them taste like a million bucks—or franks, pesos, yen, or Euros.

Together, Thomas Way (Global Gourmet publisher) and I performed the food styling and photography, and I can assure you that the photos in the book truly reflect the way the final dishes look. We used nothing artificial to enhance them, as is often the case with food styling. And to tempt you into buying A Chicken in Every Pot, I've included sample recipes and photos below.

If you're like me, A Chicken in Every Pot will have you clucking with joy. I wrote the book because, like so many of my readers, I'm always looking for new and inspiring ways to cook chicken, and this book has 150 of them. It's the sort of book that you'll want to keep handy, ready to flip through to find that quick and easy weeknight meal or something festive for entertaining. It also makes a superb gift for both novice and experienced cooks, at birthdays, holidays, and just for fun.

Advance praise for A Chicken in Every Pot

"A Chicken in Every Pot belongs in every kitchen! This cook's tour of international chicken dishes offers innovative recipes and cooking tips galore. I love Kate's FlavorPrints, scattered throughout the book, with insights into the ingredients, seasonings, and techniques that give each cuisine its distinguishing character. With these globe-trotting recipes, I could enjoy a pot of chicken every night."
James McNair, author of bestselling Chicken and thirty-nine other cookbook titles

In this book, Kate takes us around the world, tempting our taste buds with exotic flavors. This complete guide ensures there will be a tender, tasty chicken in everyone's pot."
