Since 1994, the Global Gourmet's mission has been to bring you the world on a plate. In 2002, we sampled tasty tidbits from Albania to Yemen, with recipes created by both native home cooks and fussy 4-star chefs. A recap of some of the best dishes in 2002 appears below, with one specialty picked from each month. Feast through the New Year with a smorgasbord of world cultures!

For 2003, the Global Gourmet is already stocking up more recipes from every continent. You'll get a taste of the authentic home-style soups and stews of Italy, ones rarely if ever served in American restaurants. Martin Yan cooks up Chinatown specialties. The grill travels from South America to Asia. And along the way, we pay attention to all those special things that make the cook's life easier, more rewarding, and just plain tastier, with new tips on techniques, equipment, and ingredients.
This Fall 2003, the Global Gourmet will be clucking with worldly chicken recipes, to mark the release of my book A Chicken in Every Pot: Global Recipes for the World's Most Popular Bird (Capital Books). In fact, I'm flying so high on it that I've feathered next week's column with some essential chicken soup recipes. Wine lovers and those interested in corporate success stories will enjoy another of my books, due out in Fall 2003: Harvesting the Dream: The Rags-to-Riches Tale of the Sutter Home Winery (John Wiley & Sons), the true story of how a ma 'n' pa operation became the fourth largest winery all because of a fortuitous accident: White Zinfandel. And while it won't be available until 2004, my book Macho Nachos (already written for Clarkson Potter) will warm up the Global Gourmet winter later this year with a preview of festive holiday nachos.
