Waiting for Spring
By now, many of us will have had quite enough of winter, thank you. The recipes this month will help you forget any persistent cold or snowy weather. Let's get into the kitchen!

Chocolate Find of the Month:

Time for a riddle! What's sweet, chewy, tastes delightfully of coconut or almonds, and is drizzled with chocolate? The answer: coconut or almond macaroons from Sweet Sensations of Rockport, Maine. Steven Watts opened this small shop in late 1997 and produces lots of goodies for fortunate locals. For those of us not quite within easy driving distance, he ships his macaroons by the dozen (he also ships his gingerbread houses, but only around the holidays). These are large macaroons; the almond are in flattish rounds, while the coconut are thicker, especially in their middles. My dozen arrived in perfect condition, and were as fresh-tasting as if I'd baked them that morning.

Sweet Sensations will also make macaroons entirely without chocolate, but the chocolate decoration adds a very pretty visual contrast. Do be aware that the primary tastes here are almond or coconut, though, and these are quite sweet, as macaroons tend to be. I'm sure children would go through these treats as though there were no tomorrow, and they'd be perfect with a cup of tea. Included instructions advise you to store them in the freezer, where mine kept perfectly (on the down side, the macaroons are great frozen, so it's easy to keep reaching in and breaking off little tastes!). Check out the Sweet Sensations website, at: www.mainesweets.com, or call them during business hours at (207) 230-0955.

I Love Chocolate wants YOU!!! Do you have a comment, question, or suggestion? How about a recent chocolate "find" you'd like to share? You can contact me at: sdziadwm@[email-address-removed]; I'd like your input on this column. Thanks!

'Till next month,
Yours in chocolate,
Stephanie
