	Anthony Dias Blue Tasting Notes: Shiraz is the name that Australia (and a few other places) use for Syrah, the noble red grape of the Northern Rhône Valley. It actually refers to a city in Persia (Iran) where the variety was originally grown. This exceptional wine from the Clare Valley offers blackberry and plum fruit with stunning flavors of oak, spice, mint and toast. It is long and lovely.
Winery Notes: This Shiraz epitomizes the Clare Valley's suitability for the variety, and in particular the 1996 vintage as one of the finest in recent years. The warm climate sits comfortably between the extremes and displays fully ripe fruit from low yielding vines. The result is sweet, ripe fruit with a touch of spice. The careful attention to detail in the winery produces a wine with added complexity to the abundance of fresh fruit. The Pikes Winery is located on the Polish River, adjoining the eastern side of the Clare Valley, situated 60 miles north of Adelaide. It is an extremely picturesque region where the summers are usually very hot, and the autumn typically mild with low rainfall.
