Winery Notes:
Many consider the Barossa Valley to be the home of Shiraz in Australia, and as long as Elderton continue to produce fine examples such as this 1996 release, you will get few arguments.
The Elderton vineyard at Nuriootpa is located in the warm-climate Barossa Valley, 50 miles northeast of Adelaide. The vineyard was first planted in 1900, and the estate is located on the banks of the river Para.
The Ashmead's commitment to traditional winemaking techniques, their preference for American oak, and the quality of the fruit from old vines that thrive in the deep old alluvial soil, have resulted in outstanding releases like the one in front of you now.
